Made a deal for this one today after weeks of searching and looking at so many junkers with an asking price of 2500++, gave him his asking. Pick up Wednesday.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-boats-watercraft-powerboats-motorboats-16-Aluminum-Starcraft-with-Trailer-REDUCED-PRICE-Needs-to-go-W0QQAdIdZ389777743

But what the heck model IS this boat? No rivets. Metal transom. Needs new floor (thank goodness I'll have SOMETHING to do!). Trailer has new bearings and an extendable tongue. Now to plan the floor plan, deck treatment, seating . . . and I want to spice up the colouring.

I'm as excited as a leetle girl! :D

Re: Finally got mine!

you sure that's a starcraft?

I haven't actually seen it, and I did wonder whether it really was, but at the end of the day I don't believe it really matters if it's a Starcraft, Blue Fin, or whatever, so long as it is a solid worthy craft that I can make over into what I want it to be. And this one certainly seems to fit the bill. If anyone can identify it, that would be great.

Hmmmmmmm....

I know the ad says that it's an aluminum Starcraft, but.... uh.....

Well, I'm preety darn sure it's not a Starcraft. But like you said not a real biggie.

And, well, I suppose I'd need to see it in person to confirm it's even aluminum. I'd swear that's a glasser by the photo. This is a biggie.

Long discussion with the guy. He was going on about the benefits of metal over glass. It's definitely aluminum.

Glad I'm not a betting man! I would have lost my shirt on that one!

She may be a Lonestar possibly?

Definitely not a Starcraft. And I'm with Jas, doesn't even look aluminum.

If it's tin, you're in. If it's glass, then what? Hope it turns out to be a tinny. Good luck, Sunset.

Re: Finally got mine!

i agree with Jas, has a Lone Star vibe to the profile. given the absence of rivets, wonder if it could be a very early Gregor? did they build em as far back as mid 60s-early 70s? the bow and stern caps do look tinnie.

OK you doubting Thomases! I have a call in to the guy ("Pastor Mike"). I will ask him (1) on what basis are you identifying this as a Starcraft, and (2) more importantly, please double-confirm this is aluminum hull, not glass. It is clear btw that my obligation to buy depends on it being aluminum. No way will a Pastor lead me down the garden path! :D

I will report back the result of my discussion.

Buffalo is def. within my range. I seemed all the US deals were in Wisconsin. If this turns out to be upside down I'll be back to you. But I cannot see how ANYONE could title a fibreglass boat ad "Aluminum Starcraft," even a Pastor!

You are assuming he is a Pastor.

And then you assuming he is an honest and knowledgable Pastor. :D

Anybody think maybe a Crestliner ?

Unless I see the seams along the hull and put my hands on the the rivets that I will not believe it's a metal boat...

And I'm Jason. My buds here on iboats call me Jas;):D

Re: Finally got mine!

I have his double confirmation that it is indeed aluminum. As for being a Starcraft, he was told it was, and it was identical to another Starcraft he had except for the depth of sidewalls. But he admits he has no other basis for knowing. And he knows now that aluminum is a requirement of the deal.

Side note - teenage black bear at our front door. Wife is freaking. Dog is barking. Ahhh . . . the country life!

You can be sure that when I get it this week (which I will only do if it is indeed a metal boat) I will post sufficient close-up pics to demonstrate a new level of reality to this group of skeptics.

Pretty sure you are going to find it is an older welded Crestliner.

Re: Finally got mine!

Looks fiberglass to me. Doesn't look Starcafty at all. This Pastor, umm... he doesn't juggle rattlers and eat fiberglass does he???

Can't wait to see how this unfolds. Can I give a little advice? I've only owned a couple of boats but Starcrafts are so dang well built, if it's not a SC you might want to think on it a bit. Buy a SC you get a boat built like a tank, plus the Starmada hoard comes with it. lol:p

Either way good luck.

Re: Finally got mine!

I picked the boat up last night and dragged it 3.5 hours home. No question it's a strong metal boat, and welded rather than riveted. From what I have seen definitely not a Starcraft, so I guess I and my resto efforts are "orphaned" here. :( The trailer wheel and tires look to be in great shape but the bunks need replacing. Motor is a real classic (to put it in a good light . . . ).
