I posted a couple weeks ago that I could only get my 76 merc. 1150 to idle only at 900 rpm without stalling. I sealed the caps/plugs on the side of each carb with epoxy. then I found that the bottom carb was staying open about 1/8" at closed throttle. I adjusted and have all three closing at the same time now. then after adjusting the throttle linkage, the distributor will now idle the motor down. I can set it at 650 rpm but it dies when it is put in gear so I adjusted it to 750 and now it idles fine. all of the grinding is gone now when I put it in gear. it even cranks at the touch of the key. Thanks to clams and laddies and others for their advice. I still have a gas drip comming from each carb from the bottom brass screw under the float. I going to put sealer on each one and hope it stops dripping. thanks for the advice!

Ron, there should be a gasket under those plugs. Good Boating Bob
