Thanks to my efforts and this forum's contributions, I now have enough faith in my motor to do some night fishing in Santa Rosa Sound (in NW Florida). The sunsets are beautiful. Temperatures are perfect right now. My wife caught her first redfish, but it was one inch below the limit. My son caught his first redfish, too, but it was too small.
I caught two speckled trout, but those were also just one inch below the limit.
I got a big, splashy hit by what I thought was a Spanish Mackerel, but it also could have been a speck. It hit my live shrimp the second it hit the water, took off running, making my reel scream and doubling over my rod. It even jumped in the air once. What a bummer it was when it bit through the 25 lb leader and my line went slack. Regardless....I've got the bug now!
