Hey all here is a few shots of this weekend past and some vids. Felt real good out on the water. I really missed my Doral.

cheers Rick.

@Ken.. Found it got out of the water roughly the same as last year still need power trim with the bow rider makes a big difference where the kids sit and I need to even it out on the fly. So the hunt begins for a power trim.

Re: Finally in the water

Well, you beat us into the water this year. We have been setting up the trailer for the last 2 weekends. Boat is still at the side of the house. Coming out this week for season preparation. I am off to China next Monday and back on the Friday before the long weekend. Boat is heading to the lake then.
Kids up front for setting off and trim it down a notch if it permits.

Re: Finally in the water

Sooooo awesome to see boater in Ontario back in the water! Seen many a boat out on our lake, but my Doral has to wait until the 14th for the crane. Going back up after work tomorrow to try to finish polishing the hull. Is gonna be a great season! :D

Re: Finally in the water

I have had it with this weather I think I am just going to go right out into the parking lot and launch my boat right now as all this rain has turned it into a pond anyways :p
Maybe then I can actually say I got my boat in the water THIS year

Re: Finally in the water

Well after a small scare last night when our motor would not start (no spark whatsoever) we are ready for the water. Still needs a good cleaning though and all the gear put back aboard. Other than greasing the wheel bearings and checking the trailer tire pressures we are ready to tow her to the trailer and lake for the season with maybe a trip or two to the cottage during the season. The big day will be May 20th when I get back from China.:D

Check the link out for my motor issue.

Think a 70 would get it out of the water OK? Id prefer to go bigger but money is a bit tight and I found a 70 I an afford.

70hp set up right will go O.K. for you.
How about an Evinrude / Johnson 70hp triple or an 85/90hp V4 ???
Couple around here. PM me your price range.
I am on the hunt !!!!

G'Day Chevyboy,
Your car photo bucket suggests a panache for mechanical projects...
I had to re-build a modified 200hp V6 Merc years ago and was suprised at how little some of the major parts cost including a new block. (We are on the receiving end of some major shafting by importers over here).
Might also be worth looking for a power head from a wrecker. I have a merc power head in my garage from my tender, the bottom end completely seized, engine like new?

Re: Finally in the water

P.M. Sent Ken.

It's so sad to see my boat there and I cant use her. Took the 85 off tonight What a heavy bugger!! I have an 80 here that I bought for parts so I started putting all the parts from mine on it but I don't even know if it runs. Keeping me busy, if it doesn't work no harm done.
If it does bonus for now. But I am def going to a Johnson with power trim as soon as I can afford it.

Re: Finally in the water

The Fishing isn't great but it's fishing and only 5 minutes from my house :) Gets us out and in the water at least! I got my Parts motor up and running today but I'm not so sure I trust it. I bought it last year for the CDI, was told it was a runner but didnt plan on using it. I ended up dusting it off the other day and swapping all the parts over I needed. It runs but wouldnt pee, I have a post in the Merc/mariner section that no one responded too :( I ended up pulling the water pump out to check it over and the impellor looks mint, so I proceeded to pull the power head off and check the base gasket for a tear. To my surprise there was no tear. I used Aviation form-a-gasket and put her back on the mid setion, re assembled the lower part cranked on the water and started her up. Still no pee, so while it was running I went to the back of the block between 2 and 3 cylinders and removed the water jacket plug to check for flow and had lots of flow, upon putting the plug back in it started to pee.. A little confused I am. So I have the motor completely put back together again, I'm a little concerned about the play in the lower bushing on this motor but all in all It works. Started it at least 10 times since then and every time it takes about a minute to a minute and a half before it starts to pee, and it's not a strong morning pee it's a dribbleish weak pee. I'm going to call the Merc dealer tomorow and get a re-build kit for the water pump anyway, If I don't find a better motor at least I will know I have done what I can to not break down. Found my old Merc 20 to in the garage today and a really old god knows what it is is smaller outboard I suspect it's a 20 as well. Got the 20 Merc started but the lower unit is toast. The other one has no spark. Maybe I can sell the both of them and get a little kicker 6 horse or so for our boat. Sure would beat paddleng back to shore like we did Wednessday :(.

Sure wish You wern't so far BSA I'd come over and make you an offer on that power head in your garage. I kinda like my merc, wish I had tilt. Want a Johnson but everyone seems to want a mint for them with tilt :( And yes my Nova album is a mess and I always have some sort of mechanical project on the go, some of which I started and forgot about, you never know what you will find in my garage!

Some day I'll get something reliable, SURE AM GLAD I BOUGHT A DORAL THOUGH!! It's been a great hull indeed and I'll keep puting motors on it.

Cheers Guys!

G'Day Chevyboy54,
Interesting problem there, one of my worked 200's had a protate problem and only pee'd in squirts, turns out to be a signal that the bottom seal has gone.
If you have flow through the jacket but not out the hole where is it going? any water coming from anywhere it shouldn't? low flow could be a worn pump or a build up of rubbish in the cooling system, check the cooling gallery from top to bottom.

Re: Finally in the water

I blew it all out today and no garbage came out, even went so far as to fill it with water through the pee hole on the bench both the main cavity and the cavity that goes back down to the bottom of the foot filled up with water, sat for about 15 mins like that and no leak down. Compressed air flows no problem and the water flows through the head perfectly. As I said I'm going to get a re-build kit for the water pump and try that.

Thanks for the interest!

Rick.

Good luck with the kit.
Sounds like that parts engine was a good buy:D

If all else fails rowlocks and oars are always reliable:facepalm:

Re: Finally in the water

No more Rowing!! I had a wicked headache after the paddle home. I honestly didn't expect much from that parts motor, If I'm going to keep it I have to swap out all the wiring as it has the usual merc rot on the exterior of the wires. I was kind of hoping to find a boat complete with a motor that ran good for cheap and I was just going to swap it out for my merc and re-sell it. Leave the diagnosing and wire swapping for someone else to do. Almost bought a bayliner tonight with a 90 merc on it but he couldn't start it, the boat has been hacked into with an axe and filled with garbage, and the trailer was rotten. My wife said no. Good thing I brought her or there would be a non floating - non running POS bayliner in my yard right now.

And the hunt continues.

Rick.
