Thought at first I wasn't going to make it this weekend either. Left home at noon to head to the lake. Ate lunch. Got about 20 miles from home and remembered that the boat keys were in the other car. Pretty much decided not to go but then changed my mind. Long story short. Finally hit water at almost 3:00!

I was a little nervous boat wouldn't start - more than the usual 1st time out - because I did some engine work. This old boat is awesome - started, everything worked (at least the same as last year). Almost 20 years old with 1100 hours, planes instantly and I ran a 54 MPH GPS with a little bit of throttle left (it was a little rough), a FULL tank of gas and a the bimini up but folded with me and my daughter.

I think it is a testament to doing maintenance and taking care of it (I am kind of fanatical), not to mention Volvo Penta is the greatest:D.

Great to hear you had a good day out! I was planning all week to go, but am getting over being sick, I did drive by the launch today, and it looked like a circus anyway. Oh well, I'll just go after work tomorrow!

Congrats, we had our first day out last weekend, same deal, took a bit longer then normal to start (empty fuel filter), but everything went fine all day other then a little operator error (no damage) loading. Man it was a long winter.

Well we splashed on Friday and it didn't go to well. I launched the misses and she backed off the trailer no prob. put it in forward gear drove around the marina waiting for me to park the truck and trailer, she drives over to pick me up from the dock, went to put it in reverse to back up to the dock so I can just step on the swim deck and alas NO REVERSE! She puts it in forward gear and it doesn't work either, she is floating away and is calling to me what do I do? Well we just bought this boat and this is the Maiden voyage so I'm calling the previous owner, friends, mechanics, finally I had to go get the Park ranger to go tow her in. So yeah, what a day. Taking it in the shop today to see whats the problem is, hopefully just the cable like my friend the mechanic thinks!

Terrible maiden voyage, however it happens more often then not. Best of luck! I personally know the feeling. Depressing!

I'm just glad it happened when it did, it was a nice calm(no wind) day. It could have been worse thats for sure. Wasn't too fun swimming that thing on the trailer either the water is still pretty cold here in Utah, in fact it snowed again yesterday so that tells ya the kind of weather we have been having.
