Find year with Serial# (Old Johnson)

I picked up an older Johnson outboard. The tag on the transom mount is missing. I have a number off the welch plug on the block that I have been told would be the serial number. Can I find the year with it? The number is c00i8244

It would be so much easier for us if you could post a photo or description of your motor. Start with the colour and hp. Is it thru hub exhaust or does it have a pointed prop nut?

you can up load to a free service like photobucket.com then you choose the pictures you want( clik the little box at the bottom left of the picture) scrool to the bottom of the page, clik generate html, it will take you to the next page, scroll down to thumb nails clik on that and copy, then insert it into your post.

also if you are planing on posting pictures, you can use the Blue post reply or the go advanced, there you can upload directly from your computer. besure you pictures have been resized to fit the format. 640x480 max.

That's not a Johnson Serial Number. The model number and SN on Johnsons are stamped into the block, usually on the port side. I have the book listing all of the statistics. If its a '50's or later you might have to take off the lower cowl to find the numbers.
