I'd stay with a Marine-specific motor. Costs more, lasts longer.

Buying a short block from GM, unless its a marine specific engine (short block or crate motor) will get you an automotive engine. Although the block is the same, the cam will be auto specific. A crate motor will not have marine gaskets and other marine related components either.

Ditto here. He is very helpful and reasonable. Shipped out my motor even though they were preparing for the hurricane last fall. $150 flat fee for shipping was extremely reasonable... Had the motor in 2 days.

CHECK THIS OUT

The Cam in a GM Pickup Truck motor is So Close to a Marine cut, You'll Never Notice the Difference.......

The Composite Head Gaskets will be Fine.... But, You Could change them if you wished... But it's Unnessessary.......

Just Change-out the Coreplugs to Brass,+ Bolt it In,+ Go......

I think even on a crate motor there would be some change over of parts required. Unless you are considering buying a new marine motor complete... very expensive.

How about a "Mercruiser Repower" long block?
I saw them for $2200.00

Comes with a one year "Mercruiser" warranty. Needless to say... It's Mercruiser approved!

I am certain there are cheaper ones though...
