did not know motor had gas leak, went to test, thank god on a stand. jumped solenoid, the little spark ignited the fumes. it was a scary couple of seconds, as the flame ran down the gas line to the tank.

keep a fire extinguisher handy. no damage.

you were definetly lucky ... good thing no one was injured and no damage...

thats always good to know about others incidents and near misses....

after rebuilding my the carbs and having them back on, I fired the motor to make sure i dint have any leaks and good thing i did, because one of the bowls was leaking .... if i was going to put everythig back together and get out in the bay theres no doubt in my mind that there would of been a fire...

so fellas check your connections/ hoses carbs every time you rebuild then put together, mess with them... or even when you have the cowl off, inspect the motor for any leaks....

Re: FIRE word of caution.

Heres my story. A couple years ago, had a small 14 ft with 50 hp suzuki motor. Took it out to do some tubing..the motor would bog down when trying to gun it. Couldn't figure it out, getting a little depressed, as I was going to go back to the dock(left the cowling cover on the motor, but not clamped down) turned the key and "pow" a shotgun blast sound and the cowling cover damn near flew off the motor. I knew then I must have had a gas leak, sure enough took the gas hose off the back and there was a small hole in it. My scariest moment to date.

everything is fine, scorched a fuel line hose. just cut it off. but it was really freaky, seeing fire on top of the plastic gas tank, right next to the open vent.
