Someone must know. I've not heard of Firewire DSL. Firewire is a technology of moving bits and bytes in a continuous stream as opposed to packets of data like USB and probably dial up internet connections. Many motherboards are now incorporating 1394 IEEE Firewire ports. You hook a Firewire harddrive to it. It was developed for moving and storing large graphic files and it is very fast.

It probably means it comes with a Firewire modem - as in, firewire is how it connects to your computer. You might want to check into cable in your area, around here, cable is about the same price as DSL, except it's almost 4 times faster. My cable is 3000k, where the DSL is 768k.

The cable companies in this area have no competition so they are outragous
I thank all of you for your replies though.
The DSL thing is something to think about though.
They are also offering an accelerator for about 4 more dollars a month and suppose to be 4 to 5 time faster then what I have . I may go that route.

The cab;e people here are lousy when you lose service you can look at 34 to 48 hrs down time and at a inflated cost so I won't even talk to them anymore.

Again thanks guys

The 384 and 192kbps represent your download and upload speeds respectively.

The second, and more expensive package, has a download speed of 768, and and upload speed of 384.

If the distance between your modem, and the isp's modem, is more than 18,000 feet (3.3 miles), the signal degrades.

Both of these systems are pretty much on the low end as far as DSL. Many places are offering downloads of 1500kbps (1.5Mbps)

Most is not all dsl modems that I have seen, connect with a usb or ethernet connection.

Actual speed are very dependent on the quality of the connection and your isp's equipment.

Your dialup may connect at 44k or 56k, but it likely transfers data at about half that speed.

Here is a link to some DSL info.
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/dsl.htm

Also, I doubt you will get 4-5 times the speed out of the accellerator package. And it only really works if you visit the same sites repeatedly. It works by anticipating what your next move will be, based on previouse visits to the site, and then retrieving it to your isp, so when you actually do click that link, the info only has to download from your isp.

I would see if they will guarrantee the download speeds, and allow you to cancel the deal if it doesn't perform.

Accellerator is just a gimmick.
My DSL is 1.5 Mbps download for $26/ month. They have faster (if you are close enough) but you pay more. (They will also sell you much slower for this much if you don't look for the promo deals! Hold out for the better speed if available for the same money!!!) This is great for me. I'd absolutely choke if I had to use their screwed up browser, but using mine works just fine. I hardly notice the difference between this and the 100mbps they have at work for many things. Faster connection doesn't necessarily mean faster downloads since it often depends on the website's servers you're connecting to that ration their service. Still WAY better than dialup any day, and it doesn't tie up my phone line when I'm on. If your machine has firewire, your provider has a decent reputation, they can give you some expectation of speed, and the price is reasonable- it might be worth it. I'd hold out for better speed for the money if you could. Too bad they don't offer an ethernet connection to the DSL modem, but firewire will not disappoint you.
