I have a mercury 150 hp V6 s/n 6009047, 1979 I think, Motor fires good on 1-2-3, but there is no fire on 4-5-6. I have changed plugs and even switched a couple of coils to see if problem moved, but it did not. Has to be something simple anyone ever run into this problem?

Re: firing problem

Sounds like a switch box or stator went bad. You should do an ohm test on the stator (or switch the stator wires and see if the problem moves to 1,3,5. I think they should be the red and blue wires on the top row on the right side of each box.) Eitherway its about $150-$200 part so find the correct one to buy.

Re: firing problem

There are two switch boxes each has 3 coil wires going to it, 3 trigger wires, 2 stator wires, a bias wire and I forget what the last wire is. If you think it is a switch box issue you can switch them and see if the problem moves to the other three plugs. They MUST be grounded when you start the motor.

Re: firing problem

Thanks for the help. I found a couple of wires broken in either the stator or the trigger plate. Don't know which but it has 7 wires.
