Caught my first big Bass today. A 11 pound Striper, (my husband says it does not count as a bass catch, but I am counting it). This was also the first day my new (old) boat was home (1972 Chrysler Bass Runner). So two firsts in one day.
How big do these fish get? Any tips on how to catch them better. It was kinda an accident. I was just trying to perfect my cast with a heavier pole than usual (a cat fish pole and baitcaster)and a gold goby on it. Did not expect to catch anything. So surprised and pleased. Want to catch more now. What is good lures for them?

Congratulations!!

No such thing as an 'accident'. Everything you did was planned and calculating. Now say that over and over until the word 'accident' no longer exists ;) .

Hubby's jealous, place tongue firmly between your lips and :p .

Aldo

That was a good one. Congrats on getting hooked.
I have caught them around here 22 # and a 27#. others have caught them upwards to 40 and 50 pounds.
I use live shad when I fish for them.
