Good morning everyone, Just joined the forum as i am looking for some help with the purchase of my first boat.

I am right not between a 2000 Four Winns horizon 200 Sunsport 20' with the v8 305 volvo new motor replaced recently and still under warranty.
and a 2001 Larson 190 LXI with the 4.3 volvo 19'

Currently i am leaning towards the larson but will wait to make the final decision until i test drive the larson.( have tested the four winns and while it is nice it feels slower than what i think it should.

Both are carbed volvo motors with volvo outdrives.

Let me know your opinions please!

thanks

Its hard to say based on the information provided. Check out the sticky with info on boat buying. Purely on stats I'd take a 20 foot boat with a V8 over a 19 with a V6. but you still need to test drive the Larson. Either or both could be good, bad or mediocre.

Okay looked it over and i did notice that the Four winns had a few chips in the gelcoat on the keel. how much of an issue is this. the guy said to just cover them with a keel guard when it chipped up more than that, this made me very wary of him in general but how true is what he said?

The chips mean nothing and are not an issue, they can be left as is or fixed, it will only make a difference to the owner. This is based on them being just the normal chipped off gel coat from beaching or something similar.

Oh okay good to know so just throwing a keel guard over it would be a good solution to keep from looking at the chips!
