First boat finally!

So first off let me say I'm a 20 year old college guy, I fix computers as my career. I have limited mechanical experience.

I just bought my first boat! Its just a 12ft aluminum fishing boat, with a 1960 5.5hp Johnson Sea Horse (cd-17). The previous owner sold it to me at a discounted price because the propeller was half broken. I was told that its pretty easy to find a propeller, and generally not that expensive. I've been looking online and I can't seem to find anything that says which particular propeller fits this motor. Another thing... there is a oily mix leaking out of a "pinhole" directly above the prop on the horizontal stabilizer thingy. The oil was somewhat milky so I don't think thats good. I'd appreciate any help!

Also I was wondering where I could get more information explaining all the parts of my new motor. I'd love to know it well enough to make repairs myself. I've heard this website is probably my best resource.

Milky oil indicates that there is water present. Try finding a service manual for your motor, it will save you a lot of money - that is if you plan on fixing this old boy yourself.

There is probably more to this motor, than just changing the prop.

I would check for compression before doing anything else.

Hi and welcome to iboats. The pinhole could be one of the exhaust holes if that is the case then it is just the oil that you mix in the gas and some comes out with the exhaust gas it looks kinda black and burnt oil. if it is coming out from the gear case it should be lighter in color and has a ticker feel to it when you rub it between your fingers. you can buy a shop manual wright here on iboats http://www.iboats.com/Johnson-Evinr...5417689--**********.377862101--view_id.688597 Good luck

Take off the prop and read the numbers on it. Or take it to a prop shop, they can fix a broken prop.
