First Boat - Looking at 1989 Angler/Johnson

Hi All, been researching boats and found this site, which is great.

I have come across a 1989 Angler, 19 Ft, Bowrider with a 1998 Johnson 90HP motor. I have not found much info on the Anglers of this vintage and have not seen another bowrider. Is not the pleasure type bowrider, its all fiberglass and basically two bench seats out front without any cushions.

Going to look at it Saturday and taking it to a Johnson dealer for inspection.

My big concern in the floors/transom. Does anyone know what Angler made them of back then and any advice on how to test them for rot (beyond the obvious)

I am not sure where you are from but Angler is not very popular anywhere but Florida (where they are built) and GA. I live in NC and own a 1994 21' Angler CC (center console, not cuddy cabin) with a 150 Mercury Black Max. I am actually about to post it on Craigslist for sale....getting a bigger boat.
Angler makes a very good boat. A lot of people consider them lower tier boats because people think you have to spend a lot of money on a boat for it to be good. I take mine on the ocean and the lake very regularly. It will handle a 4' chop on the way out to get King maceral then the next day pull my wife around the lake on the wake board.
Angler boats tend to weigh a lot for their size and have a large beam for their length. Both of those things are good. Also, they are foam filled, 100% fiberglass construction. One thing I love about mine is that it has high walls (good gunwale height) and a LOT of free board. As a testimony. I put mine in the lake and was in a hurry to get to one of my honey holes. I didn't take the usual steps before putting it in the water. I had arrived at my "spot" on the lake, threw a cast, got a largy. When I leaned over the gunwhale the rinse my hands in water before touching the fish I noticed that I was sitting about 4 inches lower in water than I usually do. I knew I hadnt gained that much weight so I turned the bilge on. It spewed water like a fire hose!!!! I had left the plug out!!!!!!!!!! It had been out for about 15 minutes. Although part of that time I was blasting to the hole but still....I was thankful it was foam filled at that moment and not a more expensive boat that would have just filled up and gone down.
I know mine isn't the same year and model of boat you are looking at...but I hope what I said helps. It isn't the best boat money can buy, but definately the most sea worthy 21' I have ever been on. For me in the future when I do have the money for a brand new boat...Illl be looking at the Angler 28' Panga

I'm thinking 90 on a 19' boat is going to be pretty severly underpowered.
