First Boat! Mercury 90 Questions

Hi all. I just got my first boat. A 1979 Witchcraft. I'm sure I'm going to have tons of questions.

It has a 90 outboard on it. Serial #0C235491. From what I can gather, it's a 1990? I want to get a manual for it so I want to make sure I got the year right.

It seems to work fine. It looks like these outboards have a wiring harness with some sort of pin connectors at the end to connect to the remote control. Someone seems to have cut the pin connectors off over the years and spliced wires together. Is there a wire diagram for the remote? There are random wires just hanging from it not connected to anything. I'd like to rewire it and possibly put some pin connectors on it. It might be just easier to buy a new remote and wire harness but I have no idea what to get yet.

You might look up the year by serial number at maxrules.com. They also have posted wiring diaghrams for many Mercs. You might see if yours is avail.

I got my oem manual from
searayman13 on ebay. I think he has lots more. make sure you bookmark this place, you won't find better answers to your questions than right here.

Thanks. I think that site is how I came up with it was a 1990. I also looked at their wiring diagrams. I think I found what I need. Not sure though.
I guess I'm going to stick with that I have a 1990 and get a manual it.
