Hello All, I'm new to the Forum and this is my question.
I just got my first boat and it's a 1971 silverline comoro, engine is a volvo penta B20 and it has a Chrysler 270 stern drive.
Now my question is, its this Chrysler 270 the same as a Volvo 270 drive? And its there another Model # for the engine besides the Volvo Penta B20 (cause that is all the Info I see on the engine Block)?
Thanks for any help given!!!

Seeing how this is your first boat, you may want to read up on safety requirements, that inline filter has no place on an IO. I would suspect the fuel line is automotive also, and should be double clamped.

Welcome to I boats and good luck with the new toy.

In 1971, this would have originally been a Volvo Penta 250 drive.
Since it does not have the 250 Intermediate housing on it now [no fill plug port], someone has changed the drive to a 270 from the looks of it.

It might be that it was originally all Volvo Penta, and someone replaced the transom shield with a Chrysler tagged shield at the same time the drive was changed.

I don't recall Chrysler tagging a drive and then using the Volvo Penta engine. The whole point of tagging them Chrysler was so that they could use the Chrysler engines and call it Chrylser Marine.

I'm not so sure about the fill plug thing. I have an AQ280 outdrive attached to my AQ130D engine and it doesn't have the fill plug. Mine boat is a 1976 vintage so the engine/outdrive combination should be somewhere around that vintage as well.

All 280's and later have the fill port in the transmission, just above the eccentric piston and to the starboard side.
# 5 and # 6 here.

If yours does not have the fill port, you might have a 270 transmission.

All 250 drives and the first generation 270's had the fill port just below the shift linkage cover. It's actually in the intermediate housing

All 250's are small bearing, so you can't install a 270 or later transmission onto a 250 intermediate or visa versa.
