I Aquired my first boat a few weeks ago and realized very quickly its not something im used too. I was researching the boat and found this site so here i am. The boat is a 16' 1975-78 Cee Bee Avenger Model#150 with a much newer Merc 140hp I-6. Ive had 2 people already tell me that this is a screaming combinatinon and that i got super lucky. The Boat itself is in superb condition only needing paint and seats as far as i can tell. The motor however may not be in such good condition... from what ive been told already the most probable scenario is that someone was driving the boat when then impeller/water pump went out and overheated the crap out of it... now heres where you come in.. i need to know as much about this boat and motor as possible... If a motor is overheated is it ruined? Can i replace the impeller myself with no marine experience? (im an auto mechanic)
I would appreciate as much information as possible. I would also like to know where to look for the serial numbers (boat and motor)
Thank you very Much and thanks to the iboats.com staff for creating this website

The only serial number i could find on the engine that looked relevent was on the rights side of the block between the 4-5 cyl Ser #852-6622

First, you need to identify what year your engine is. Then get a Service Manual. That will tell you how to replace the impeller.

An overheated engine is not necessarily ruined. Do a compression test and let us know what you find.
