Just bought my first four Winns, its a 180 Horizon 1991. There is a button above where the lanard fixes and I dont know what its for, any ideas the other thing is it has no warm up lever like my mercruiser used to have, is there any way to rev up out of gear?

Re: first four winns

if the button you are asking about is a chrome one, four winns normally put the horn button near the ignition and kill switch.

in 91, four winns was still using OMC drives, to rev up in neutral put the lever in neutral and pull the whole lever directly away from the control box, it should then allow you to move the lever forward or backward and rev up while the drive stays neutral.

Thanks for that, the lever does pull ot a bit, it looks like there should be something in the middle a motive of some kind, its missing, is there a spring in there? or should there be, as it pulls in and out very easily 2-3 mm i would say. The horn never thought of that will try thanks again.

Have you tried the Fourwinns web site? They have all the models manuals online.

Re: first four winns

Stay away from Four Winns and Volvo Engines. I bought a new 2008 Horizon 180 and every other time I use it, something breaks. Radio, speakers, top, engine cover, trim switch. Small stuff at first, but now impeller goes out and runs hot, power steering pump fails and leaks everywhere, and now throttle cable just snaps in the middle of the lake. As I was holding throttle open manually, noticed bolts just vibrating out of engine. Four Winns name came from a contest, if you can use it 4 times (and you can't) without something breaking, you must win something. If you like being stranded in the water, this is the boat for you. Yea it is under warranty, but it don't help you when you are paddling and have to take it back all the time. If you must get one, see about having ores installed on each side and keep a strong rope on board.
