Got the portside stringer + floor cutout last night. HAve lots of grinding to do, and one small spot to patch from being too eager with the 12" recipricating saw blade.
I think that what lead to the stringers turning to mulch was that the PO had screwed the fuel tank cover directly into the stringers and gave moisture a place to enter. All of the rot is confined to the area directly adjacent to the fuel tank.
Also noticed that the stringers consisted of one piece of 1/2" plywood glassed into the boat.
Q- What is the proper way to fasten the fuel tank? What was in there was another rig-job that was screwed directly into the stringers.
Q2- My boat is still on the trailer with 16 rollers. I have seen one mention that it should be off before reglassing stringers and floor. Is this true?
Q3- What foam to use for bedding under new stringers?
Enough for now. I probably won't get to do more until this weekend. That's a good thing because maybe the cuts on my hands will heal by then. Dummy (me) didn't wear gloves the first night. Made sure to use them after that.
