Hi all. Been lurking for a few weeks and finally decided to say "Hi" and ask a question.

My project boat is an '85 18' seville. I had it out for a run on the water and everything was fine...no leaks. The interior however is trashed. I knew that when I bought it and plan on having it done for next spring.

Tonight I started tearing out the old floor. It's as bad as I thought. Unfortunately the stringers are mulch. Again, all that I expected but hoped to be surprised.

Anyway, my question is how to get the seat mounts off. What are they attached to? I assume they are anchored to a stringer or brace and covered with glass.

Enough for now. More to rip and tear.

Welcome to iBoats!
Not to be vicious, but the best answer is, who knows? Since you are ripping the floor out, who cares? Lounge or pedestal? There are a multitude on fastning methods and systems. It really depends on the type and brand of seats and any mods the P.O may have made. If they are lounge type seats, you probably have rotted bases too, since the are ususally just bare wood. Cut the floor around them, remove any visible screws and pull'em out. Just watch you cut depth, floor only.

Re: First project boat

Thanks Nova. No offense taken. Was just looking to see if there is an easier way. Gotta admit that the hacking is fun right now. Wife doesn't mind my "man project" as long as my honey-do list stays short.

From what I see, there is only 2 stringers running end to end. I am not sure if I'll discover 2 more after I rip.

Oh, they are the lounge seats. I'm hoping to save the existing plywood for templates. I cannot use the mulch stringers for templates, so I'm sure I'll be asking about that in the future.

Lot's of threads on floor/stringer/transom repairs here..do a search. I prefer the elec. chain saw..works great !
Protect yourself and wear a mask when doing all that ripping out. There is a lot of nasty stuff there and it will stay in your lungs forever!

Re: First project boat

imo lounge seats are cheap enough to buy new that I would not try and rebuild them.

I agree they are cheaper to buy, I just redone the inside of a boat, and if I had looked around I could have replaced the seats new, it was job to do, not counting the man hours I put into it. Going to start another one but going to buy seats.:D
