All,

As a newbie on this forum as well as new to boat restorations I figured I could get some good advice here

What I have is a 65 Glastron Gulcruiser. The hull appears very solid but the engine/outdrive are unknown. Also the interior is shot

I had planned on attacking the project as follows

1. Gut the interior
2. Remove the engine and outdrive
3. Remove the flooring and check for rot
4. Repair rot as necessary
5. Rebuild engine/outdrive components as required
6. Repair/paint the hull as needed
7. Install rebuilt powerplant and drive
8. Finish the interior

Is this a reasonable approach? Seems so much needs to be done and I am not sure where to start!

Seemed much easier when I restored a few cars

Any thoughts?

Start by doing a lot of reading if you're not familiar with boat rebuilds. Lots of info here on iBoats forums and many good folk to help. Once you're committed to rebuild it's difficult and expensive to bail out. I Know !

Your rebuild sequence order seems OK. Usually the $$'s determine the order of sequence.
1965 Gulfstream Cruiser That's a big boat to restore for a the 1st one. You're in for a lot of dirty, arduous work. But she'd be pretty and a real classic when done.
Take pics as you go. Have you been to the Classic Glastron Web? you will probably find answers to future questions that don't get answered here.

Re: First restoration

thanks for the replies

For the engine, a 110 OMC with a Stringer stern drive (need to get positive id on these)

I do realize this is a rather large project, but figure I have lots of time for the work as well as the research required

Will definatley post pcs as I go

thanks to all for all the valuable info you share

Re: First restoration

i would consider a complete refit with a different drive train. keep your project small enough that you can see progress.
