I have a 1970s? 55 evinrude that has been sitting outside for the past two years untouched.. it ran fine when we put it away . what should i do before i try and start it again?

I would follow what is listed in this post from the FAQ in Repair and Maintenance section.

Great post to follow and makse sure you dispose of any gasoline left in the tank. Please dispose of the gasoline properly.
