First start in god knows how long

Not sure how long this motor has sat for. Me and my brother just got it running and he was being persistent. I knew it wouldn't idle on the first get up n go but hey whats family for.

On a side note. This is my first boat purchase ever. When I bought the boat all I got was a bill of sale for the boat and the trailer. How would I go about registering the trailer if all I have is a bill of sale for it in Michigan?

Anybody have experience with this. I've asked my local sheriff deputy with the model and serial numbers of boat and trailer. They say it isn't stolen, just need to know where to go from here.

Unless you can obtain trailer specs from the mfr, you will need to get it weighed, then head off to your Sec. Of State office with the weight certificate. They have some forms for you to fill out. Then you get to pay the rather expensive registration fee (sales tax?) but at least the fee is a one-time deal for the life of the trailer... While you own it anyhow.

So that is my understanding. I would call the SOS to confirm before doing anything.

I just got my first boat here in Michigan too. I inherited it. Had to pay $75 registration fee for the new permanent trailor plate plus $17 to register the boat. Boat tags are good for 3 years. I believe that price is good for anything 15' and less. SOS is where you need to go. Good luck calling them though, they don't post numbers for individual offices.

Thanks guys. I did end up just bitting the bullet and going to sos. With just my bill of sale they did want a weight on the trailer. Luckily I pulled up an old manufacturer brochure on my smart phone and they accepted it!

So going to the lake tomorrow to see if she floats :)
