This is the second season on a 2001 40HP Johnson 2 stroke.

For winterization, I just basically ran in some fuel stabilzier and shot a little WD40 into the cylinders. The fuel tank stayed attached all winter.

At the boat ramp last Sunday (warm day) I primed and cranked, primed and cranked, etc. etc. The motor would start but died right away. It took 15 minutes to finally start and run. Of course people were staring which made it more annoying.

After that, it did not miss a beat.

This motor seem to always be lame when cold starting, but starts and runs great wehn warm

Is this about right for the first start of the year on theses "primed" Johnsons?

Marty

Marty,

Perhaps you are not priming it correctly?

The trick is to turn the key to the "ON" psition-not start. Push the key in (prime) for an eight count. Release and crank.
