First test start of 1995 after much winter work...anxiety relief needed!

Hello, I hope someone can relieve my anxiety...its probably unfounded at this point but I'm nervous!!

My 1995 88spl-last falls purchase...I did the Head gaskets, Thermostats, Pump kit/impeller/lower unit seals/ All Deflectors, and lots of wiring clean up stuff. Started right up on last years gas (hope the PO had stabil in there!) I cautiously let it run a few mins, it came up to temp. I had my hand on each head for 3-4 seconds before having to pull away.

Right now it has no Temp guages(going to do a dual setup eventually)...I have fixed and verified the horn circuit works.

MY QUESTION: where should "warm/hot" water be exiting to tell me the flow path is complete? I didnt let it run long till I get a IR thermal gun to test. I used a great post about gasket orentation, so I'm confident they are in correctly so the openings are in the right location.

My anxious concerns are two-fold if it seems too warm:

1)The light sealant I did use on the head gaskets( my OMC manual called for it) could have squeezed into the gasket opening that allows flow into the head cover area-However I was very light and cautious with it.

2) Even though I tested the new thermo's in a pan--that somehow they are not opening etc? Again, very cautious on their install with
a helper. Pretty confident they and the poppets are in there ok.

I had good Pee, some flow out the multiple round holes at the Cav plate, a bit out the Hub, and some coming out the front little tiny hold down on the leg. I didnt notice anything (that I know of) coming out the two ports at the top of the LU under the shroud. When Apart the passageways were absolutely clear and blowed through without restriction. Interior was pretty clean too.

Maybe it just wasnt hot enought to open the stats...Again, just nervous, whinning like a baby! But after alot of time, I dont want to chance anything.

Thanks for any input (errr, anxiety relief!!)

I feel better.....

Bought a cheap Harbor Freight IR gun. Let it run, and Therms must be open as the exit water is warm (not hot) and the heads measure anywhere from 120-135 depending where. I believe thats aok in a general way. Will keep monitoring. Another compression test, and Seafoam next.

If you were running on muffs then that water is cold and it will take longer for the engine to heat than if you were running in a barrel. Your temp gun shows that it is running cool so you must be on muffs. Sounds good to me; that's about the temp my 150 runs at on the muffs.
