I have a 1997 Tracker outboard 25HP two stroke. Its made by mercury marine. The impeller has never been changed. I know the lower unit has to come apart to access the impeller. What i dont know is if there is anything else i need to know, do i need to put it in nutreul or does it need to be in gear? Is it ok if the prop turns after i remove the lower unit? I just dont know if theres something else i need to know. This will be my first time changing a impeller. Thanks

On a 25 there is a screw under the carb port side to remove the shift linkage and then remove the 4 bolts that attach the unit to the mid section and it will come right off.

Laddie, I looked all over and cannot find a screw on the left side of the carb, however there is a clip that lifts up which allows a pin to be pushed, this does look like the shift linkage. does this pin need to be completely removed? I did move it some but the lower unit does not come all the way out.

Yes, if it has the clip just rotate it 90 degrees and remove it, also on some models you have to remove the screw in the rev.lock actuater and plastic block from the shaft.
