So after the firs few trips out i have a few things im needing to fix.

2001 Larson 190 LXI 4.3 Volvo

First is fuel,

When gassing the boat, it is a very slow process. my guess and the suggestions at the gas dock was a blocked vent tube. what is the best way for cleaning this out? also is there anything that i would need or want to check in the fuel system?

Also with the fuel, my gauge only got to about half full. even with the gas being filled.(or so we think) i was thinking that it may be a sticky float or gauge?

When filling we got about 6 gallons after a weekend of use and cruising however with the gas light still coming on we loaded the bow and got another 5 in it. (the previously mentioned Vent issue) does this sound like it wasnt all the way full or the gauge isnt working? These are VDO vehicle style gauges BTW.

Thanks,

The vent line shouldn't cause fueling to be slow. The pumps will stop if they detect a fuel buildup. My guess would be the pump was slow. Most times if the vent line is bad you would have problems after running the engine for a little while because it would starve for fuel. VDO gauges have been know to be defective.

Fill her up till fuel pump at dock stops pumping, check if VDO fuel meter shows full tank. If not, sender, float or whatever detects fuel level is defective.

Happy Boating

Ya the pump would stop every few seconds, you could get a little in at a time and we fueled for about 30 mins i think. After filling with as much as we thought it would take it read half full but im not sure if that was the gauge wrong or if it could actually take more gas. I had read about the faulty VDO gauges which was wy i kind of dismissed it.

It could just be the pump. There is a station here that will constantly stop with the boat or even with a truck. I stopped going there because it took so long. Have you tried a different place?

Ya, i filled up at a service station taking it to the marina the first time then used two different pumps at the marina. the staff wasn't too fazed by it they said its not too uncommon.
