This will be my first time replacing the steering wheel... When I got the nut off... I ended up having what looks like a steering adapter on... I have no idea how to remove the thing??? Any clues??? Does it just pop out with some force? Should I use a pitman arm puller?

Put the nut back on flush with the end of the shaft to protect the threads. Place your knees behind the lower part of the steering wheel and apply outward force. Also pull out on the top of the steering wheel with one hand and give the shaft a rap with a hammer with the other hand. That usuallys pops them free.

Re: First time replacing steering wheel... need help

thanks for the advice Willy.

Tried your technique and the sob wouldn't budge a mm... I ended up going to pepboys and picking up a small gear puller they had for $3.99...

I sparyed some PB Blaster on the sucker overnight and the adapter was so stuck that the jaws of the gear puller bent while I was using it...

Anyways... here are some pics of the old one I removed, the 11" destroyer, and the bent gear puller... :)

Bent gear puller... That's what 3.99 will get these days!

Glad you got the wheel off. New one looks much better.

The gear puller was cheap. You got what you paid for, a pos. Get a better one.

Yup it's weak as heck but it got the job done and is now retired. :) Funny thing is that the package says "heavy duty contruction" lol...

Go to AutoZone, they have a free tool lending service. Just leave the cost of the tool with them and you get your money back when you return the tool. If you don't bring it back, you have just bought the tool. They have many specialty tools that you may need on occasion but don't necessarily want to own.
