Hi this is the first time i will be using seafoam on an omc 115, and i wanted to know if it was ok to just four it into the gas tank, or will it affect the VROif i do that.
Also i would like to know if it is ok to use the whole bottle( 1 Pint) in the 16 Gal gas tank, or is that too much

thanks in advance.

Re: First time using Seafoam

I have a 115 Johnson even after I put in new plugs it was hard to start, off and on running rough. I sprayed a complete can of seafoam (deepcreep) in the carb. I put in 2 can's in 13 gallons of gas went out and burned it all. Now my motor starts and runs better than when it was new. Your VRO is separate oil injection. Do it 1 time a year.

you can spray regular seafoam in a spray bottle directly into the carbs, if deep creep is not available, same stuff. deep creep just in aerosol can. run deep creep in you gas all the time, and will keep running smooth. also can be used for starter fluid. on any engine.

Re: First time using Seafoam

I just used deep creep in my 1976 85hp and I must say it absolutely improved how the motor starts and idles. I sprayed it directly into the carbs while it was running. It smoked like crazy, so make sure the wind is at your back when you do this. I used most of the can and also sprayed some in each cylinder after removing the spark plug. I let that sit in there for a couple hours and went back out to burn it off. The stuff works great in my opinion.

So you guys recommend to always add seafoam or deepcreep in your engine all the time. Every time you fill up the tank add some seafoam also? How much do you add if you have already done the serious task of spraying the carbs and cleaning the hell outta the engine, just for everyday use?

If you check the BRP site here:

http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/About.Us/FAQ/Maintenance.htm#Q1

There is a maintenance schedule question. If you follow it through you will find a chart. The chart has a column called Annual/Every 100 Hours.

About half way down the page you find "Decarbonize Pistons" And the notation "P" which means Perform.

Now, there is no question that running the products like Seafoam all of the time will probably help, but the kind of decarbonizing techniques that they are speaking of are the kind that really get rid of the built up destructive junk in the cylinders and pistons.

Those techniques are well covered in the thread at the link supplied above by Rick [rickdb1boat]. I personally like and use the method described that is attributed to Capt. Bob Dunkelberger.

Re: First time using Seafoam

I was reading Dunklebergers method of Decarbing the engine. Instead of buying a new hose couldn't you just use the hose that goes into the main tank and just take that out and use it the smaller 3 gallon tank that he sais to use?? that way you don't have to buy a new hose and you have the primer bulb.

Also, can you do this method with just the bunny ear plugged in while it is in my drive way getting fed by the garden hose? Will it hurt the boat at all? I understand that you can only have the boat in idle when it is out of the water, so would this be enough to clean the carbs out or do you have to take her to the lake and just open her up on the water?

Do it on in the water where you can follow the recommended procedure. doing this in the driveway may be a huge smokey sooty mess.

It's not about cleaning the carbs. It's about getting the built-up carpon out of the combustion chambers and the piston rings and grooves. Follow the captains advice and procedure. you're engine will thank you.

Re: First time using Seafoam

I've been using Seafoam for about 5 years. I'v e always tried to mix it exactly as the can recommends.
I use 6 gal fuel tanks to supply my 1979 70hp Johnson. It sounds like I can use more than the recommnded amount, is this correct?
Since they are pretty much the same animal. Can I go by the Evinrude maintenence schedule?
