Hi,
I'm new to this forum, so far it seems to be a great place for information and to gain experience. I recently just piced up the boat in my sig, an 88 17' Maxum bowrdier with a 85 Force OB. I am in the process of restoring the boat and i notice that there is a seperation under the rub rail on the starboard side. It's about a 1/2" wide and runs about 4 feet along the side of the boat. It's totally not noticeable unless you rub you hand under the rub rail and feel it. I think the prior owner must of hit a dock too hard or something. What is an acceptable way to fix this? Couple of my buddies suggesed that i pur a piece of wood on the other side and screw into it to bring it back in and then caulk and seal everything. If you look underneith up at the rub rail you can see where the original rivits where. Please help on this issue, it's been freaking me out ever since i noticed it.
Thanks alot in advance.

There usually are wood screws under the rubber insert of the rubrail. You can try to tighten them, or replace with thru bolts, if the holes are stripped. Heating the rubber insert with a heat gun (low setting) or a hair dryer will allow it to be removed easier.
