Ok I've searched and read a few post and got answers both ways on search.

I live in Arkansas and I keep my boat in the garage.
I have a Ranger 350V w/ a '76 Mercury 115hp.
I finally got my motor running great.
But with winter coming on I have a few questions. Keep in mind I don't think have to winterize, cause boat is indoors and our winters are not that bad.

Questions.
1. How long is it safe to go between starting the motor with gas still in carbs?
2. Should I run carbs dry when I know motor will not be started in a while?
3. How long will the gas(50-1 mixed) last before causing problems?
4. Should I get a gas stabilizer?

I'm proud of my new used boat and want to make sure it stays in good working order.

Thanks
Paul

Re: First True Bass Boat Need Advice

On my starcraft which uses 50:1 premix, I put it up for winter and don't start it again til spring. I add stabil to the last tank and run it enough to get stabilized fuel to the carbs. I don't run the carbs dry and I just start it up in the spring. I have been doing it this way for as long as I've owned it (10 years). Never any problems. My dad has done it the same way for as long as I can remember.

As 109JB says, STABIL or any other fuel stabilizer is essential to prevent the fuel from going sour and causing varnish build-up. Fuel stabilizer will keep fuel fresh for six months or more. The key is to run the engine long enough to get the treated fuel into the carbs.

Thanks for the help.
I bought some Marine Stabil tonight and will add it and run the motor this weekend.

Thanks Again
