Fish Finder Mounting Advice

I have an older Lund Aluminum fishing boat (C14). I am in the market for a Garmin/Lowrance/Humminbird depth/fish finder. However, I would like to figure out a mounting approach before I spring for one. I have a trolling motor, so I can run the finder off of the battery.

I have noticed that the units are either portable or intented to be mounted above a dash or other horizontal surface. I am looking for a way to mount the display unit on the gunwale or transom.

I already have a Fishin Buddy unit that is all-in-one and mounts on the gunwale or transom, but the problem is that it can not tolerate higher speeds or weedy areas. I need to use a transom mounted transducer.

I am looking for advice on how to mount the display unit in a way that allows it to be easily removed/moved.

available in several sizes.
double ball swivels, mount the base anywhere.
loosen the knob to remove the ball and electronics platform.

I decided on a Garmin 140. I found a Ram mount that is designed for an aircraft yoke. Picture is included.
