Looking at buying a new Alumacraft Fisherman 160 CS with a 25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. I usually fish small to medium size lakes so was wondering if anyone has any pros and cons about this boat. How does it handle rough water, etc etc. Mostly fishing with myself and one other person. Any information would be appreciated.

Re: Fisherman 160 CS

I just bought a Fisherman 145 CS and would recommend you get a larger motor. We had the 25 HP Mercury initially and had difficulty getting the boat to plane with our four person family weighing in at 700 lbs. Moving people up front in the boat helped, but 25 HP was just not cutting it. We upgraded from the 25 for a 30 HP (the maximum allowable) and now we have no trouble with the boats performance. It gets up to 25 MPH in a reasonable amount of time. No speedster but fine for what we need. The motor's cost a bit but when you start adding the additional small amounts for more HP it is not that much money. I think it was like $600 more to go to 30 HP and another $600 to to go 40 HP. I would recommend at least 30 HP and more if you can afford it. This is our first boat so can't really give you any educated information about handling. We are enjoying our boat, wish it had more storage though.
