i have two different fishfinders and i want to install the transducers side by side. will this cause a problem having two different transducers next to each other??? will they read correctly and not interfere with each other??

thanx in advance dpond

Re: fishfinder

before we can answer that, we need to know the frequency of both.

rather, we need to know whether they operate on the same frequency; if so, they'll crosstalk & neither will show a coherent screen.

why two side by side?

No it will not work. Think of it like this your twin brother who sounds just like you is on the port side and your on the starboard side. Your in an area where you get and echo back off of a cayon wall. Your both start yelling the same sound and what ever speed you want. Now your trying to time how long it takes the sound to come back but since you can not tell the sounds apart and you are both yelling over and over it impossible to tell how long it takes to come back.

This is exactly what two depth finder would do. Why do you want 2 depthfinder side by side?

I fish with a partner in a 19 foot bass boat and it has two depthfinders. One transducer on the bow trolling motor pointed some foward. The other transducer is a shoot thru hull right near the transom. If keep the sensitivy turn down below where it should really be to see small fish they will both work at the same time in water shallower than 30 feet. 30 feet or more or if turn the sensitivy up normal niether will work.

We use the helm fish finder while running looking for structure and the bow trolling motor and fish finder when running the trolling motor.

Standard 200Khz transducer cone angle is 20 degrees. So in 30 feet of water see about a 10 foot circle under the boat. The sound goes down at 20 degrees and back up at 20 degrees. So then the sound gets back to the boat the sound covers about a 20 foot circle. When turn the sensitivity up higher it will actually be able to here the echo at a wider cone angle.

Re: fishfinder

yup, with both transducers transmitting the same tone, each will process its own echo plus that of its neighbor. Confusion will reign. (what he said, with less verbosity ;) )

Re: fishfinder

I guess I would wonder why you would want to have both units turned on at the same time?? As long as you were only using one at a time, it would be fine.
