Did you know that there is a season that the hospital gets fishing and boat injury's. Well I had to go one time to get part of my finger sewn back on.. So, I'm in there and so was this man and woman.. Now the guy is kind of laughing while he is trying to explain to the doctor how he injured his wife.. His wife is screaming for something for the pain and to hurry up and get this huge lure out. This other doctor comes in with a camera and asked if he could take a picture. Now your probally wondering what he did? This should be rule #1. Always let your fishing partner know your casting, by one simple request,"Get Out Of The Way or My Favorite LOOK OUT I'M READY..""""Followed by, "Honey did you look at that cast I just made." The doctors are now injecting this lady with something really good.. She is just in lala land. Oh my God, the doctors are taking measurements of the lure and she is just laughing. It was over 7" long. The Treble hook at least 3" long.. Now the doctor is trying to cut this thing out. I also hear this," Hey doc you think I am going to have a scare on my Breast from this thing.." That is when I almost busted a gut.. Then it was my turn.. Same Doc. Kind of interesting talking to him. He was going over a list of common injurys from fishing. I guess he has had 4 of those types of injuries in the past. Apperently the husband really was getting a good strong cast in, because it literly knock his wife into his back and to the ground screaming... He set all 3 hooks all the way in.

Barbara Dee, are you sure you didn't write the script for Funny Farm, an old Chevy Chase movie? 4 guys go out on a fishing turnement and Chevy hooks a guy in the throat with his lure, then trys to knock out the guy with the hook in his neck, saying it will be easier to get the hook out if he is out cold. Beats the heck out of the guy and hook falls out on its own. Chevy dives out of boat and swims for shore cause other 3 want to do bodily harm to Chevy. Atleast nobody got hooked in the boob!

Sorry to say it was real life.. Its kind of like hanging out at a flea-market with a bunch of charactors.. You never know what is going to happen next.. It's kind of like buying a site-un-seen storage unit.. You may get treasures or a bunch of cr...ppy(junk).

13yr old son at a school camp two years ago had the trebble hook of a 4" spoon caught in his ear lobe. Kid next to him was being careless as he cast and caught my son in the ear. Luckily the line broke or more damage might have resulted. Ended up going to the hospital to get it removed. Has a nice scar and a shiney lure as a sovenier :D School no longer permits fishing at its outings . :(

That reminds me of something that happened to me a long time ago. I was fishing with a friend who was dangerous with a pole. He would constantly walk back and forth on the shoreline casting his lure, retrieving and casting again. He never looked around him or behind him, he'd just whip the rod back then snap it forward to cast. It was kinda funny to watch him because about half the time he cast he'd get the lure stuck in a bush or tree behind him. We all stayed away from him whenever we went fishing. Anyway, one day we were fishing and I was trying to untangle a birdsnest and wasn't paying attention to my friend. All of a sudden it felt like somebody punched me in the eye. It kinda stunned me for a bit, my eyes and nose started running and I my head started hurting. I reached up to my eye and there was a lure hanging from my face. I then realized that he had hooked me! I was really lucky in that the treble hook went through the edge of my upper eye lid and through the corner of my lower eyelid, but didn't hook my eye. I had to cut the hook and pull it through, and believe me that was painful! I also ended up with a black eye for awhile.

It's amaizing your friend didn't end up with a black eye and a shoe stuck where the sun don't shine.

Put a fly in my own nose (12 hook long shank) once. Had a heck of a problem to get it out with crossed eyes. Fishingbuddy never saw it :D

Re: Fishing Lure and a Hospital trip

Now here is a classic!
We were up at Shutte Harbour Queensland and fishing for Barra from under an old jetty which was demolished from the waters endge. On top was an elderery gent in a wheelchair and his wife. Every time he cast out, his wife was aways close by. He keep saying to her move away woman move away or I will get you with the hook. Then it happened, wack, screems and the hook with a chunk of smelly bait was through the side of her nose.
I offered to cut the eye off the hook but NO she wanted to go to the hospital, which was 40 miles away in Prosapine (those days there was no ambulance in the area). Next day they were back and every time he looked like casting, she was back at the start of the pier, 100' back.
This happened 34 years ago.
Cheers

I was fishing on Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee, Georgia 2 months ago. I was using a Rapala with 3 treble hooks, caught a nice 4 lb. bass on the last hook. I was getting ready to take out the hook when he decided to do a flip, hooking me with one of the other hooks. I went to a local emergency room to get the deeply embedded hook removed and the doc brings out a small fishing tackle box with pliers, side cutters and other tools. He says he sees at least one hooked fisherman a week during the summer. After a shot of novacaine, it was out like a flash.

Re: Fishing Lure and a Hospital trip

I have been fortunate to have never been hooked past the barb in forty years. In my drinking days, there was a group of us that waded shallows smallmouth fishing and one evening a guy hooked his brother in the eye lid with a Rapala. Tim just cut the line, drank a few more Buds, and pulled it back through...ouch. Lucky it was not in his eye.
Last year while down at the Outer Banks fishing, the guy next to me caught a nice 4lb. Spanish. He was using a double treble Gotcha and while unhooking it, the fish got loose and burried both trebles in his hand while in full flail. He would not let us help. He was in so much pain and finally got it off but had to get twenty stiches from the ripped skin. I will never get that out of my mind. For those who have never caught a Spanish, they shake like they're on speed.
My father has a 6" scar on the top of his foot where he stepped on a #0000 shark hook as a kid. The bad part was that it was chained to a dock somewhere near Aligator Point in FL and no one was close by. He was found hours later and taken to the hospital for removal. My day will come, I am sure.
