Hello all, I?m going to try to make a run down this summer and do some fishing. I would like to catch some Flounder, Speckled trout, Sheepshead, Red drum and maybe some small Sharks. I will be bringing the boat in my signature, and plan on fishing snows cut, Cape Fear River and the ICW around Carolina Beach.

When would be the best time of the year to fish this area, say from July thru the first part of September? I have fished Snows cut and the river maybe three times, all of which has been from the bank. So with that being said I have as you can tell very little experience fishing saltwater.

Also any pointers as to how to fish the area, like look for tidal creeks, docks, or drift like I prefer to do for Walleye any info would be appreciated.

Re: Fishing Pleasure Island, NC area.

Late Summer and early Fall are great in NC, lots of flounder, and great speckled trout and drum activity.

Just out of curiosity, why the Southern waters? Are you coming down for vacation? I live near the Pamlico Sound which has great spawning action in the Summer. The Fall is really good here as well. What type of gear will you be using? Light spinning tackle would be a safe bet for most species. Mirror lures and Gulp are very popular as well as popping corks with live shrimp, etc.

Check this link, you may have to register, but it has lots of great NC info.

noworries79, thanks for the info. We will be using light spinning tackle, and the reason for the south is my Brother-n-law will be going with us. The last time we went to the north we was going to camp on Ocracoke, we stayed for about six hours and he flipped out about being stuck on an island. He denies it but he had a panic attack, Ive saw enough attacks in my 17 years on an ambulance to know. His was mild but panic he did, we caught the last ferry off the Island and stayed in Carolina Beach. He likes the Carolina Beach area, I love Ocracoke Island.

You can't beat the Outer Banks, I agree. Just don't tell your brother-in-law that your going to be near Pleasure Island. :) Will he be on board with you? You can run anywhere from the ICW to the inlets and along the Cape Fear river. Bring some spoons just in case you hit a school of Spanish Macks near the inlets.

Good Fishing!

He is on board for the Snow's cut area. I have some 3/4 oz. Johnson silver spoons in silver and gold that I use for pike in Canada, I plan on bringing them with me.
