Hey folks, I'm going to be pulling my boat down to St. Pete this weekend with some friends and family. Was going to bring my fishing gear but don't know anything about fishing this area...first time! Anyone have any advice on where to fish, what to fish for, tips & techniques etc.? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks folks!

Go to a local tackle shop/Sunshine Ace and get a Top Spot chart, it will show you several fishing wrecks/reefs/grass flats areas to chose from, ask the guy there what's biting and have them set you up with the appropriate jigs/lures, there's too many variables to list here.

Trout and Whiting are supposed to have turned on here. And the sheepshead haven't headed out yet so I'm told. I was at a bait shop today and the guy said just off shore, 1 mile or less, is supposed to be good now. Oh, the bait shop guy also said he heard of Flounder showing up. But I haven't been able to get out to confirm any of this.

Technique....I normally use a simple knocker rig and work the bottom. But to call me an amature would insult amatures.

I took the kids off a sea wall today in the Intercostal and got hooked up on one trout. He looked like he was probably close to slot but he spit the hook when he saw the sea wall several feet from him. Everything else was just pin fish.
