Years ago at a place I used to work at, my manager used to enjoy hearing about my fishing trips and looking at pictures if I happened to take them. I invited him one day to go fishing and he eagerly accepted. We both took off work on some random Tuesday and headed to Lake Texoma.

We get there and make our way to the islands. It was around August and it was hot and vacant during the weekday. There was a deep channel and pool I knew of and we set up there. We beached the boat and plopped some Coleman chairs in the water, about waist level. After the cooler was tied up and the rods set up, we cast into the pool maybe 10ft in front of us. Immediately we are getting hits and for the next hour reeled in catfish after catfish. My boss was ecstatic and raved on and on about how awesome this was and how much fun he was having. Unfortunately, he grew careless in handling the fish while taking the hooks out; instead of standing up he stayed sitting down. He caught a nice 3-4lb blue cat and as he was taking the hook out, it flapped and slipped out of his hands - falling on his lap. The fish's pectoral fin stabbed his thigh and was deeply embedded. Long story short, I had no clippers large enough to cut the fin and the filet knife would not do either. We basically cut the fish away from the fin, loaded everything up, drove back, and then drove my boss into Denison where the nearest emergency room was. They had to cut the fin out and he received a tetanus shot.

His enthusiasm towards fishing dimmed somewhat afterwards.

Has he asked to go fishing with you again? or were you re-assigned to Siberia?
