Ahoy everyone!

Looking for some advise on how to fix a hole. I just bought a 67 Sea Ray SRV160. The previous owner had the seats recovered, (probably not profesionally) and he made a mistake judging the length of screws to use when he reinstalled the seats. (Bet you know where this is going) Anyway, when I got the boat in home I checked the hull over real good with a light and......Gee is that a deck screw sticking out the bottom? Indeed it was!!

Anyways, I'd like some advise on how to fix it so it will be leak free and look Ok. That's the last time I check over a boat in a snow storm. LOL

Ted S. LOL. Not laughing at you, I just find it hard to believe you said-Gee!

Go to your marine store and get some Marine Tex. This works well to patch the holes. Howevcer it is white. If we're lucky that is what color your boat is.

Otherwise, get some thin fiberglass mat and a gel coat repair kit. If the hole is VERY small, you can probably get away with just the gel coat. It would be best if you could get to the backside of the hole with the mat. The kits allow you to customize the gel coat color. I'll be straight with you, it's an art.

If you have not fixed the hole yet, may I suggest that you sand the hole good with sandpaper, then clean it real good. Then get the fiberglass kit and use about a one ince square mat. cut the mat, mix up the rosen with right amount of hardner. put the mat on a plastic bag (clear --use walmarts) then pour the mix over the mat. put the mat with the mix on the one layer(only use one side of the bag) bag up to the hole and spread with your hand. You can then smooth out the mix and cloth with your hand without getting the mix on your hands. This workes well working upside down on the bottom. Slowly pull the plastic bag off using the finger to keep the mat in place. After it is dry, you can sand it smooth and paint.
s/Toby
