I installed a new diaphram and gasket on my 88-85 hp force, and she is back to idling fine, just need to adjust carbs on the water, now on to the original problem, that is a load misfire. Motor idles fine, just as soon as I throttle up, she starts spittin' and sputtering. A good deal has already been done to her, i.e fresh gas, new fuel/water filter, carbs taken off and cleaned, reed's checked, new gas lines from tank to motor have been replaced, switched coils around, (motor has blue/white spark) new stator, igintion switch, every wire, including all ground wires taken off and the terminal ends and wire ends were brushed off, any one have any ideas past all of this? I'm taking her out tommorow, see what happens.

Re: Fixed!!

Sounds like your to the last step in the link and sync procedure. You need to find the sweet spot on all 3 carbs air screws. If you re-read the sticky, Frank A. gives a great explanation of how to do this, and it will get rid of that holeshot stumble.

Re: Fixed!!

Thanks tater, I printed Franks sticky off and am taking it to the lake today. We will see. The thing is ask three different boat mechanics about a problem, and chances are i'm gonna get three different answers. I just bought a clymer book, but I get more usefull stuff from this web-site. Ahh, the internet..... Also, for those who may can find one, the Force shop manual is a fantastic resource as it should be. One of my marine mechanic "buddies" has one, it is a very detailed book. I'm his buddie as long as I bring him cash....lol. Three months of tinkering and parts replacment and we will see today, I hope she runs. Its been a good motor, but I've towed others and been towed myself. She's darn near half as old as I am and still cranks up with just a few spins of the flywheel, amazing. I'll let yoiu know how she did this p.m I'm wating on wife to get up so we can go, this should be a intersting day.... see ya

Re: Fixed!!

Yea, reeds looked good, compression is low but all three are dead on 115 lbs on each by my guage. That was the first thing I did. My boat mechanic checked comp and got much higher numbers, he said cyl. tested at 145 each, still all are withen 15% of each other. Could be my borrowed gauge, anyway compression is accetable. Taking her out in a few min. wish me luck. I'll post result this evening when I get back.
