I have a big gouge in the hull of my fiberglass boat, and the gell coat is missing down the the actual glass. The hull is white. How hard is it to fill it? Do I just fill it with a store bought product, and smooth it out flush? and do I need to sand?
I want to have my boat detailed, but want to fix the gouge first.
What is a good product to use, and the easiest.
THANKS

You can get gel coat repair kits to match the finish......

When you say BIG gouge you might be best to give a size and depth. Marinetex or fiberglass will repair it.

Re: Fixing A Big Gouge In Fiberglass

Could you please Explain, In Detail, the Depth,+ Size of the Gouge,..??......

If it's Just the Gelcoat is Gone,+ Not a Big Dig in the under lying Structure,.....

You can probably get by with just a tube of Gelcoat........
'course,.... Matching the White of your hull, with the White of the gelcoat could be a Major Project, All on it's Own.......
It seems to Me that there are More shades of White,.... Than there are individual Colors.......

Make sure if you are down to the glass it is absolutely dry under there before you begin your repair. Any moisture at all is going to affect your repair.

Well Gouge might be a bit to harsh. It is about 3" long, 1/4" wide, and 1/16" deep down to the glass itself, but with no damage to it really I'd say

Bondo wasnt kidding when he said there are a bunch of different shades of white. Cure out a sample of what you are going to use and see how it matches first. You may have to tint it a little. If it is too white dont rush right for the black tint. Belive it or not a tiny bit of blue, yellow, or red may actually be what you need. I'm talking a TINY bit of tint. Seriously - get a woman to look at your hull and your sample cure. Women have a physically more accurate sense of color than men do. I'm serious. I'm not kidding. Honestly they have done tests and stuff.
