Fixing holes in aluminum boat transom

I am doing some work on a aluminum boat I bought; however, after removing rusted screws and part of the wood transom, I found that they drilled holes the size of quarters into it (picture attached). Besides welding because I have no experience doing that, what is the proper way to fix it. I plan on using flex paste to fill the hole as well as marine adhesive with an exterior aluminum plate, though I am not confident it will work for the long term.

If you had some sheet alum, or even heavy plastic cut a square somewhat larger than the hole, rough up with sand paper, degrease/clean both surfaces and attach with JB weld....if you aren't picky about looks.

Thanks! I ended up doing that, but I used marine adhesive instead of jb weld because that's all they had.

Put one on both sides, and put a bolt thru it. When it falls off (and it will) you will get your feet wet.

If you have a tig welder, get a few pieces of 14 gauge 5150 aluminum
