I have 2 3/8 holes in the transom of my tracker boat. What is the best way to fix this?. I was going to have it welded but the welder said the wood in the transom would catch fire, and possibly smolder until there is nothing left. I know silicone is an option but would rather have them filled with something solid. A bolt will not work because the trim and tilt bracket would hit them.

If you can get to the holes from the inside with a hole saw,cut the wood out to about a 1/2" bigger then the hole of the hull.It should be able to be welded back up.After that, use the same hole saw,cut you a new plug out of some 3/4" plywood to fill in the wood part of the hole inside.

Hey,

My first thought is perhaps drilling the hole with an angle bit and snugging a flat head bolt in it with silicone to seal. I wouldn't tighten too much so it doesn't pull through. That way it would be flush with the transom and not interfere with ptt.

Like I said it was just a quick thought.

Beck

If they're exactly 3/8 then go to Home Depot, get some 3/8 dowel rods. Cut them about 1 shorter than the holes (on both sides). Coat them with epoxy, do the same for the wood inside. Put dowel in hole.

It's then filled with something solid. You could then 5200 over it, to finish the repair (unless I'm missing something).
