I've read the sticky on fixing fiberglass stress cracks. I saw that he used peanut butter for the cracks then sanded and painted it.

Would these repairs be peanut butter territory also? Or is this layers of CSM + Epoxy territory only?

Whoever tried to patch these holes up used some sort of puddy or bathroom caulking.

Re: fixing my problem areas

re.....fixing your problem areas.......have you gone to a gym?

lol.....sorry .... i could not resist. ! :p

the back needs to be re glassed.....and i would need to see the bow and if the glass is compromised before i can make a call.

the way i would approach the repair is.......

grind out the area......remove the gellcoat, and get to the glass.....mix up some structural peanut butter, and mix it into the wound......then cover with 2 layers of csm. the sand and re gell.
all of the info you need is in the link below, in my sig....use the index and go to the page you need.

cheers

Re: fixing my problem areas

sweet, thanks for the fast response.

So do I let the peanut butter set before I put the 2 payers of CSM down or do it all at once?

What grit sandpaper do I use to smooth it all down after it sets and ready for paint? I have a ton of these cracks everywhere and I'm just going to end up repainting the boat. Do I need it smooth like glass or rough so the new gelcoat sticks to it? I read in some posts that 60 grit works. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Re: fixing my problem areas

Normally I dont Glass stress cracks. I just use the tiger hair and then gel.

I do glass spider cracks and impact cracks though.

If you did want to glass over the PB .. then apply the filler..sand/prep/dishout for glass..then apply the glass.

If you glass right over the PB then you risk sanding though the CSM before its fair.

However .. If your very careful you Can fill and glass all in the same application. ( I do )

But like I said I dont Glass over normal run of the mill stress cracks.

YD.
