Re: fixing plugs

What you need is an expandable nut or a rivnut (remove the quotes and look here) "http://www.hansonrivet.com/w64.htm"

Go to your local hardware store or any of the home improvement centers. Look for "well nuts" You'll find them in the area of the store that has all of the drawers with smaller, specialty nuts, bolts, washers, pins, springs, etc.

Re: fixing plugs

Something wrong with S/S screws? Installed properly with some 4200 or 5200, they would be pretty much as strong as thru-bolting and probably a lot stronger than well nuts or riv-nuts in the long run.

I agree totally, I have used both well nuts and stainless screws both have their place and work well, I would just use the stainless screws on the bow rail.
