Fixing starboard windshield support?

As I'm going through and correcting the minor issues I've found with my new to me boat, I've come across one and I'm not sure of the best way to tackle the repair. The starboard windshield support screws are pulling out / stripped. I think the best way to fix this is to get some stainless through bolts and drill out the holes, run the bolt through, and put a washer / nut on the back side. Is this an accepted method? I would think that if a self tapping type screw can be used, this would serve the same purpose. Would I need to create a backing plate as well, or will a decent washer suffice? Is there any other suggest repair for this?

Thanks!

I'd bolt 'em.

through bolt is always the best when possible....probably be ok with some good sized fender washers but a backing plate of aluminum or starboard or wood would be better. bigger the better.

I can create a backing plate, but I don't know how big it would be. The brace mounts to the inner edge of the dash where the walkthrough is. So, it sounds like through bolts will work. Now to get some stainless fasteners!

Thanks!
