fixing up skeg.....

I have an '05 XR6 merc. Skeg has minor scratches and a few dings, nothing major. I just want to keep it looking good. Is there a way to patch up the dings, and smooth things out? Also how would I go about painting it up after?

any advice would be appreciated....

Sand the scratches to bare metal, fill it with marine polyester putty, sand it smooth. Prime with Zinc Chromate and overcoat with gloss black paint.
