Flat Bottom vs Tunnel Hull

Hey guys I'm looking to get a bigger boat for my 50/35 jet and I was wondering what the advantage is with the tunnel hull compared to a regular flat bottom. Both boats are aluminum jons that are 48" wide at the bottom.

Thanks

Re: Flat Bottom vs Tunnel Hull

A tunnel will raise the pump and allow you run in shallower water, but I'm sure you knew that part. The tricky part is getting the tunnel design correct for a pump, the wrong design can be terrible, a good one is a dream come true.

The bigger problem is your motor isn't going push a boat much bigger than what you have now. I have a 1648 G3 with a 60/40 Yamaha on it tied to my dock right now and it works great, but jet pumps are very load sensitive so adding a foot or two in length, or an extra person can make a huge difference. You may go from great performance to barely getting on plan quickly. I have another 16' foot boat with a 90HP Evinrude pump on it and its not overpowered.

Thanks guys, I think I'm gonna stick with the flat bottom. Going to look for something a little wider though, 52" maybe 56" across the bottom.
