Flat fve wiring connector...???

Purchased an Azure this past fall.
Trailer has flat 5 connector.
Looks like a surge brake set up.
I am not familiar with the flat 5 and guessing that the "extra" wire energizes a solenoid for locking out the brakes during reverse/backing up.
Am I anywhere close?
I see some type of electrical component at the output of the master cylinder at the coupler.
All the lights do what they are supposed to when I towed home with a flat 4.
Surge brakes worked fine.
I am thinking when the truck's back up lights come on they activate the lock out function on the master cylinder...

Appreciate any confirmation or setting me straight.

BTW: My first post here. THANKS in advance:)

Yes, you are spot on about the 5 wire connection. The 5th wire takes input from the backup lights and energizes a lock-out on the master cylinder. It is needed for disc brakes.

I'm guessing you didn't have to back up? The blue wire in the harness connects with the back-up light circuit of the tow vehicle; it needs a 5-wire, too ... ;)

Thanks for your kind words about my boat. It has hit a huge maintenance cycle this year . . . engine valve job, structural repairs (rot) and I am even doing some work on the outdrive. I am hoping to get a second Formula in the 30 foot range in the next couple of years.

Re: Flat five wiring connector...???

A big question for me was if I needed a controller AND a flat five adapter for the set up.
Sounds like just an adapter :)
I did not look for or realize (still haven't checked but will) if the trailer itself has back up lights.
Pretty minimum amount of backing up since bringing the boat home. Just into a couple parking spots.
VERY much appreciate the info !!! THANKS!!

I did hit the links to your resto photos.
CONGRATS on all of it.

I hit alot of "offshore" boating sites so I am a pretty big fan of the bigger Formulas too.
Good luck with the shopping!

Most of the current day vehicles have the wiring that is 'plug 'n play' with the adapters. . . usually 7 connector round, and then you get an adapter to get to 5 pin flat style.
