I was recently given a tri hull fishing boat with a mid eighties 65 hp merc outboard that I think I can get runnning, but the boat looks like a garden(there is a rather large tree growing out of it). I was thinking that I could pick up something like a carolina skiff or something for fishing in shallow water. Any ideas on what size or brand that I should be looking for to fish in the shallow water on the east coast or intercoastal waterway of florida?

Hi ya Pete30... I fish the Indian River Lagoon every so often...

Your best bet and probably the least expensive route would be an extra wide beam modified vee type aluminum Jon boat around 16' or so that would be rated for your 65hp engine... Their light weight and have a pretty shallow draft...

Carolina skiff would also be a good choice but the aluminum would get my vote...

Lowe, Triton, Grizzly all make a decent alum. mod V that would work great. Of those 3, I'd go with Triton.
